STARDUST (fantasy)

I don’t think I have ever seen a fantasy film as wacky and charming as this one. Imagine an inept country boy turned hero, a fallen star in the form of a beautiful young woman with an attitude, Robert De Niro as a swashbuckling drag queen (I know–you’ll get what I mean when you see it), and Michelle Pheiffer as a vain and diabolical sorceress and you get the cocktail of wonder, whimsy, and wit that is Stardust. The film, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, unapologetically combines fantasy elements from here and there: unicorns, pirates, witches and quests and princesses–and, surprisingly enough, succeeds. With quirky humor, glittering scenes and a sprinkling of romance, Stardust takes you on an enchanting journey to the world of fun and fantasy as you’ve never seen it before.
